Background

Having started roofing under the wing of the former long established traditional roofer Steve Pugsley (now owner of the Ardosia Slate Company), I felt privileged to learn a trade about which I became increasingly passionate and proud. Under his fine tutelage I understood the fundamentals and learnt about all aspects of roofing, discovering the versatility, durability and beauty of lead work. With this knowledge I have been able to progress to a standard on which I can base a company bearing my name.

Having formed my own company in 2013, I set about finding a team of workers who would conduct themselves with a level of professionalism and politeness with which all customers should be greeted, and who were able to meet my expectations by working to the high standards I expect. With a solid team of roofers in whom I have complete faith, it is my aim to provide all my customers with a service that rivals none.

"As the damp Devon winter approaches, our aging cottage will receive the full force of its blasting rain and gusting winds and with it comes the yearly worry that the property will suffer the ill effects of another wet season. Well not any more.

This Easter we decided enough was enough and we should treat Silver Cottage to a new roof: an enormous undertaking for us. We had to envisage the disruption to our business and family life, acknowledge the financial implication and decide on the materials which would be used. All of which caused us some anxiety.

We asked Nathan Spice to visit us, look at the task and talk us through the logistics of such a project so we could fully understand what would be involved, which he did with absolute clarity and professionalism. With our anxieties resolved we felt comforted, reassured and heartened that this winter we would be secure and water tight – so we went about arranging dates for him to begin work.

The manner in which Nathan, Will and Marcus set about re-roofing our home was calm, efficient and productive. Whilst on site their gentlemanly conduct and good humour was inspiring and far removed from the disorder and chaos we were anticipating. The energy and competence of this team, combined with workmanship of absolute quality was impressive. I went up onto the scaffolding many times to observe progress, and the attention to detail and accuracy of these guys is extraordinary – the new roof is a work of art. Beautiful lead work had provided us with seamless flashing around the chimneys, an exquisite lead ‘hip’ on the end of the property, tight slating and lovely woodwork give the cottage the dignity it has so long needed.

After two and a half weeks they left the site clean and tidy, (even the scaffolders whom Nathan uses  – Advanced Scaffold – were sympathetic to our needs and limited any damage to the lawn whilst loading and unloading their equipment).

The comfort, reassurance and peace of mind we now have, secure in the knowledge that the roof over our heads is good looking, perfectly constructed and firmly in place is wonderful. We feel privileged to have had our roof built by Nathan Spice roofing. Thank you so much."
